Just a quick question,
I'm asking on behalf of a friend who seems to think this is a stupid question ~__~
If he was to do medicine through Bach. of Science, but didn't do any units of chem in high school, what exactly are the steps that have to be taken in first year to be eligible for it? As in...would he have to holiday classes etc??
-
Basically he'd do one class in the summer of his 2nd year and other than that his degree would be identical to somebody who did chem in year 12. If he wants to avoid the summer class then it's possible but really annoying to set up a study plan that would work.
The normal progression is chem 1 -> chem 2 -> MD prereqs
He would have to do fundamentals of chem -> chem 1 -> chem 2 (summer) -> MD prereqs
-
Makes sense :)
Thank you ^^
-
If you get H1 (80) in fundamentals you can skip to chem 2 in 2nd semester
-
Actually I believe its a percentage (~10%) of top scoring students based on exam mark alone, typically those attaining 80-85% on the exam are given an offer.
EDIT: If you're set on medicine I would advise not to skip to Chem 2 as there is a knowledge gap between fundamentals and 2, and the ChemCal modules dont cover it all.
-
I wouldn't skip Chem 1, no matter how well I did in Fundamentals. Too much drama.
-
You dont skip that much out of Chem 1 except for Abraham's lectures. Most of the organic and the energy stuff is covered but not in full detail.
-
Lol that's because the stuff learnt in Abraham's lectures is really annoying...the last two lectures, where you had to memorise all these stupid equations and stuff about different elements, ughhhh. This semester, Inorganic has been soooo much better. It reminds me more of Organic in a way, which is probably why.
Kinetics will always be a disappointment.
-
Organic in chem 2 is quite difficult. If uve started on any of the exams (im guess you already have) the content is quite difficult compared to semester 1, but everything else seems quite easy and just all calculations
-
I love Organic! It is sometimes difficult to remember all the reactions but the questions where the paragraph is really long (ie B1) and it's like A --> B --> C are my favourite! I actually enjoy doing them!
Rate laws, not so much. Need to catch up on yesterday's lecture today...
