Title: Electrochem help??

why can't a daniel cell be recharged???

because the products don't stay at the electrodes.

Daniell Cells involve oxidation and reduction, as you know. This can either be redox of a solid electrode or ions in solution. As the reaction progresses, one electrode is actually eaten away and ions are 'spent', provided the electrode is involved in the reaction. How would you go about recharging a Daniell cell? Well, you could replace all the reactants or add more, but this isn't really recharging. I suppose I'd say that a Daniell Cell can't be recharged because the reaction is not reversible ( electrochemical series dictates what happens and in what direction) and also, the reaction products are not in constant contact with the electrodes.
