Post by: mikail596 on November 06, 2011, 11:48:25 am
Ok, this question has me stumped lol.

e. Explain why the sum of the residual column will be close to 0.         /1

because the aim of a least squares regression line is to minimise the sum of the squares of the residuals ie. closer to zero. therefore the sum of the residual column would be close to zero.

From the solutions
"The definition of the least squares regression is that the sum of the squares of the residuals is
minimised."
