smiley
say we have two further classes at a school
they do the same sacs
for simplicity lets just say theres 4 kids in each class
marks for the year is as follows, out of 100:
class 1: 100, 90, 88, 87
class 2: 50,40,1,1
is the guy who got 50 on his SAC's going to be ranked 1?
-
No, your ranked in a cohort, not a class.
-
What is a cohort?
-
What is a cohort?
Everyone at your school who is doing that subject, regardless of which class they belong to.
-
fuck
how sure are you?
there goes 50
but they had better teachers man thats bullshit
fuck
-
Pretty sure your class=cohort
I mean let's say for business management there are 2 classes and one class gets their SACs assessed very thoroughly while the other is assessed easily. It won't be fair if the students in those two completely different class is compared and ranked with each other.
-
Bozo is right. 100% sure.
-
The teachers are supposed to cross-mark samples of each other's sacs so that there is consistency in marking across the whole cohort. This does not entirely rule out any advantage that one class may have because of the teacher's skills, interests, knowledge, etc
-
No, Bozo is 100% right, I've spoken to the VASS person at my school, he's a great guy, and he explained how the SACs work and how they're moderated...etc.
You're ranked within your whole school, everybody who does that subject
-
Okay then...I'm fucked. Excuse my explicit and vulgar language -.-

Is it true that teachers only send student ranking to VCAA instead of statistical information regarding your results?
And yes, cohort refers to ALL of the students in your school doing that class. 100% sure. It's a shame when teachers are supposed to cross mark and it's ultimately discovered that they don't:
Student 1: When are we getting our sacs back?
Teacher 1: They are being moderated by the subject department on Thursday.
Student 1: But Student 2 said his class has his result back already!
Teacher 1: Umm...
-
VCAA uses the actual results for each of the sacs for every student to calculate the 34% that is attributed to school based assessment in the study score.
-
k say i got 96/100 for the year and there were a few people who got 97-100%, say 5
does this mean im ranked 5 outright or do they recognise that it's stupidly close
is 49-50 still possible considering i got 100% on exam 1 and i get the same result today?
-
:D theres ur smiley >:(
-
You'll have to hope that the five guys above you got 100% or close to 100% on both exams to get ur SACs moderated to 100/100. Hmm to get a 50...if you ace both exams and ur SACs get moderated up to 98-99 you could still get 50...

Actually nah, it's just rankings. That's the reason why MHS has stupidly difficult SACs because it helps to get a better and more accurate distribution of rankings. There's no benefit in getting everyone high SAC scores and bunching them up at the upper 90% zone, because then essentially the students who will actually do well on the exam may not get a brilliant SAC score to pair with it, leading to worse scores for the school as a whole. It's not possible to use the actual SAC results because it's impossible to standardise across schools. What is possible to standardise though is the exam, so they use the exam scores paired together with the rankings to work out what the raw SAC scores should be, with some slight adjustments made after this (not 100% sure what this entails).

A ranking's a ranking - they won't just 'meh, close enough'. However, you don't need top rank to get a 50 or anything like that - it's all relative to what exam scores your cohort gets. For example, MHS has got like 13 50's in business management in previous years. It's pretty much because all those 13 got near full marks on the exam, so consequently, they get the same for their SACs. As long as those other people above you did decently in the exam as well, you should be fine.
-
but say i was 6th with 96/100
is that the same as being 6th with 0/100?
-
^ No, it's all relative -6th with 96/100 will count as A+, 6th with a really low score won't.
-
sick so if i got my 6th with 96, 100% on the first and 55+ on the second i sohuld be looking at 40 at least :D woot woot
-
say if i predict i get 85% above in exam 1 and 75% in exam 2....what will my approximate raw score be?
-
35
