I'm thinking about trying to get into Medicine via the graduate path but have some questions about the required GPA. I sent an email to Melbourne Uni but have yet to get a response so I'm trying here.
Basically I'm really good at IT and should get 80+ for it easily but due to the lack of space to fit other subjects including some that I really need I can either choose Physics or IT. I really wanna Major in Physics but the IT will help me get a high GPA so I'm torn but now I'm considering doing the IT diploma that Melbourne Uni offers but I wanna know if it contributes to the GPA for Graduate entry.
Thanks

The diploma does not contribute to your undergraduate GPA afaik. Could be wrong though.

If it's a postgrad diploma of fulltime study it should, shouldn't it?
-
Oh yeah that should, I thought he meant concurrent diploma.

Actually I did mean a concurrent diploma. I could always do a diploma in maths I guess and then not have maths pull me down.
Thanks tho.

Just be careful when course planning, because you will need first year biology, chemistry AND 2 of physics/maths/IT if you are doing a diploma. It is fine if you choose not to cross credit any diploma subjects, but if you do, then you will need to think about how to organise your subjects. Usually people do 3 science areas + 1 breadth over the course of the first year, whereas you would need 4 science areas.

I'm not planning on cross crediting but if I do the maths diploma then it will cover the course prerequisites. I'll pick some easy breadths and then have some IT subjects in my course to make it easier. I'm just wondering how much chemistry do you recommend as I don't particularly like chemistry and was only wanting to do maybe just first semester of it and then for the GAMSAT just focus on chemistry as I'll be doing both bio and physics past second year level.

Well you need to do chem 1 and 2 to do biochemistry in 2nd year, which is a prereq for the melbourne MD. However, you might be able to get away with only doing 1 chemistry if you get really high results for it and then by talking to the biochemistry coordinator.

Yeah I just looked at the prereqs for biochemistry guess I'll probably be doing both then as I don't particularly like the subject I probably won't get high enough score and it'll help with the GAMSAT anyway.
