Well I was looking for prerequisites for actuarial studies to help me make a study plan...
Went to melb uni's actuarial studies website:
http://www.bcom.unimelb.edu.au/majors/actuarial-studies.html
And found this:

Edit: so it looks like i can only do 1 breadth subject per year :(
Im not really liking the sound of this, I was also interested in law and was hoping I would be able to do a bit of law as breadth...
So is the course plan for actuarial studies really this rigid or am i missing something?

pretty sure it is that rigid, thats what put me off from doing it. On top of this i think you sit an external exam for accreditation :/

So it looks like the first year is completely done for me, since all 8 of those subjects seem to be compulsory.
Its only in the second and third year that get to choose my own breath subject (circled), and even then its only 1.

I actually like this rigid structure but I guess we're all different.
You actually have 3 breadths, one per year, so those you only have 7 compulsory subjects in first year. The last eighth subject is a breadth in Semester 1 and the one in the sample course plan is only an example.
The next breadth is in 2nd year Semester 2 and the last breadth is in 3rd year Semester 1.
If you are interested in Law, you can do the breadth track of: Principles of Business Law, Corporate Law and Taxation Law. Unfortunately the last two Laws are only available for either Semester 1 or 2 in any year and it changes sometimes so you won't really be sure whether you can keep on doing it in the future. If you are interested in breadth check this old thread: Breadth for BCom students
What I'm more confused about is enrolling into subjects. In the enrolling page of the site, the Actuarial stream has 5 of the subjects in first year. However it doesn't have the 3 breadths (a non-maths and the two accelerated maths). Now at the bottom of all the subjects are three breadth subjects you can choose. Are these the three breadths in first year or are they the three breadths that isn't compulsory throughout your three years of BCom?

Far out, i completely missed the breadth subject in the first year! Cheers man.
I havent actually gotten around to enrolling yet, was going to wait until after academic advice day, as far as i can tell you should be able to select accelerated maths I and II

Personally i'm another one that likes the rigidity haha, means i don't have to waste time picking subjects and tossing up between the subjects that sound more interesting, the subject that has the easiest assessment, and the subject that fits best with my timetable and gives me a day off haha.
Anyway, in terms of dealing with enrolling, those 5 subjects are the subjects that you will do in 1st year you should be able to pick what semester they are in from a drop down thing, unless they're already there? Kinda hard to do this without being there with you haha, also there's no rush, if you're having problems, just go to the commerce center where they're more than happy to help
