Title: Commerce + Language Breadth?
Post by: kaipingpong on January 24, 2012, 10:43:33 pm
I'm doing commerce at UoM and i was wondering if studying japanese as breadth will help me in the future in jobs etc.
The thing is i cannot major in Japanese unless i'm doing Bachelor of arts, the only thing is a diploma of languages which adds another year to my course :|

Sure, if you want to go overseas to Japan doing commerce in the future. But if you really want to study a language to improve international relationships, take Mandarin, since China's going to become a global power. That being said, I don't think studying a foreign language is necessary to get a job in commerce in Australia.

it's recommended for students to apply for diplang after a year of uni. does that mean we are meant to take the language as breadth in our first year? if not, are the credits transferrable even if we do?
