Hello!
So, I'm doing my first year in the Bachelor of Commerce and want to major in Actuarial Studies, and so I've enrolled in:
- Introductory Microeconomics Sem. 1
- Accounting Reports and Analysis Sem. 1
- Introductory Macroeconomics Sem. 2
- Accounting Transactions and Analysis Sem. 2
and, because I only completed Maths Methods in Year 12, I have to choose for my breadths:
- Calculus 1 Sem. 1
- Calculus 2 Sem. 2
- Linear Algebra Sem. 2
which leaves with me three subjects in Semester 1, four in Semester 2, and a total of 87.5 points for my first year.
I can't choose a non-maths breadth for my first year because I've already reached the maximum breadth points, and the only other subject that I can do is Introduction to Actuarial Studies in Sem. 2, which I can't do anyway because I wouldn't have completed the prerequisites (either Calculus 2 or Linear Algebra) by then, and that would also give me five subjects in Semester 2.
I was going to follow the recommended subjects in Year 2 and 3 according to the Course Planning Guide for BCom, but altogether, this would give me 287.5 points (87.5 first year, 100 in second and third year), 12.5 points less than required. I also need to take two non-maths breadth to "gain accreditation in actuarial studies" or whatever, but following this course plan only allows me to take 1 non-maths breadth, in my second year as far as I can tell.
How will I be able to complete a second non-maths breadth to fulfill the points requirements, seeing as I can't complete one in my first year?
