Title: 99.0 full melbourne medicine guarantee FFP - non-guaranteed internships?
Post by: jmosh002 on January 27, 2012, 03:52:18 pm
I have a few questions about this 99.0+ guaranteed entry pathway into medicine at a full fee rate?
How much is the course at as a full fee place?
Since the biomedicine cutoff just went up this year, is this pathway likely to rise in atar score, or be abolished?
I have heard that if you choose this pathway, you will not be guaranteed an internship - what is based on you gaining internships (marks in uni, interview, involvement, etc). If you do extremely well in university as one of the top of your class, even through this non-guaranteed internship pathway, are you likely to be accepted into one of the big melbourne teaching hospitals?

It goes up every year, by the time you get there I would budget 300k over the whole 4 years. The government will loan you up to 110k of that on FEE-HELP, but you'll have to find the rest of the money yourself.

Maybe. I suspect they'll keep it, it's a reasonably good attractant to international students who pay anyway.

Even if you're the top of your class, you still go lower in the priority listing. From memory it's:

CSPs from victoria
CSPs from interstate
FFPs from victoria
FFPS from internationals

In terms of the actual match and application, yeah they'll take a CV, a reference, any research you've published, interview etc.

so you are saying that i would be likely to get an internship in victoria if i did med csp in a different state, compared to a FFP at melbourne?

based on my 1 year old recollection of a pdf i glanced at, yes you'd be more likely to
