hey guys, whats the main difference between the thalamus and reticular activating system?

RAS - has the important function of alerting the fore-brain about incoming sensory information and in managing alertness and the sleep-wake cycle.
Thalamus - relay station for nearly all sensory information before it is processed by the cortex.
