Title: Endorsements
Post by: pi on July 29, 2012, 05:55:30 pm
So I got this book for my yr11 brother today and decided to revisit my VCE English experience in the train by having a flick through this book.

One word: AMAZING.

What turned out to be a simple flick through turned into me questioning/telling-myself-off like "Damn, wish I had done that in my topic sentences" and "So that's how you discuss tone properly (in a LA)!".

This book may be small in size and price, but it's something I seriously wish I had alongside me in my turbulent VCE English journey. Contains tips, samples, techniques, and is clearly written by two authors (shinny and EZ) who know exactly how to achieve high levels of success.

Endorsed to all yr11/12 VCE English students for sure :)

I bought this book 3 months ago but just read it today :P How lazy I'm haha
I wanna say that, the book is INCREDIBLE! Lots of details about how you approach the essays, exam tips, etc,...
The instructions of writing intro, body paragraph and conclusion are so amazing and have many techniques to make the examiners impressive.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Btw, are the authors Shinny and EZ? I thought they wrote Andrew and Vincent?

LOL yeah, how can someone's name be called Shinny and EvangelionZeta haha

But I saw on AN forum, there is an username called "Werdna" so I thought Werdna is Andrew who wrote the Eng study guide
And I read your post - Shinny and EvangelionZeta, it just makes me confused.

Anyway, the book is very awesome! :D

Oooh. From the sounds of it, this book would be deliciously handy for my English exam.
Considering I'm craptastic at writing things in a squeeze, this will be an investment when I get my next youth allowance payment.

stronk book, it was hard to believe that something like this could help both stronger and weaker students... But it did - through thorough explanations of structure for each section of the exam, as well as alternate ways of structuring essays.

It also cleared up certain aspects of the study design, allowing me to effectively self-correct essays. The annotated essays/paragraphs also showed how to 'build' an essay, and how each sentence/phrase contributes to the essay as a whole, an aspect that many other commercial books ignore.

The exam tips/advice at the back were also a big plus!
