Title: Dilation by a factor of 3 in the y direction
Post by: VCE_2012 on August 17, 2012, 11:06:17 am
Would it be 'politically' correct in VCE (specialist) to describe a transformation of an ellipse by saying:
Dilation by a factor of 3 in the y direction?
Or would the examiners strictly prefer "dilation by a factor of 3 from the x-axis"?

"Parallel to the y-axis" is perfectly correct.

Dilation factor of _ from the x-axis, dilation factor of _ parallel to the y-axis.
Either of those are fine :)
