Title: Geometry and Trigonometry vs. Graphs and Relations
Post by: fisa2001 on September 24, 2012, 04:15:02 pm
Which one do you think is easier? I personally think Graphs and Relations is easier thanks to Methods but my school chose Geometry and Trigonometry as our module over Graphs and Relations cause they said it's easier but it seems like Geometry wasn't done as well as Graphs have in the exams which had like 80% of students got the question correct on half of the questions on the module (exam 1) whereas Geometry only had about 40-60% on each question. So I'm on a verge of deciding which module to focus on for the exam depends on what people generally find easier. Any thoughts?

It's probably best to go with Trig, as you will have a lot of practice in it when you do it with your class. I think Trig relates to Methods too, as you use Trig ratios in circular functions. If you don't/didn't do well on your Trig SAC then it might be best to do graphs and relations over the holidays.

There are things in the Further Mathematics course in Graphs and Relations that are not taught in Methods. Granted, you would probably pick it up quite quickly, but don't just assume you will be able to go into the exam and fill in that section without any work. I personally think you should stick with what your school has assigned, unless you are finding Geometry and Trigonometry particularly difficult. You won't have the support of your school if you learn another topic so compared to the rest of the state who was taught Graphs and Relations, you would be missing out on some key preparation. The reason why the success rates are lower for Geometry and Trigonometry is that there are a lot of tricks in this section, compared to the others. It's up to you in the end, but I wouldn't waste my time learning new content this close to the exam because it is a period of refining your current skills, not picking up new ones.
