Title: LA Contextualise?
Post by: WhoTookMyUsername on October 03, 2012, 09:33:10 pm
Do we need to contextualise our language analysis for the exam?
Or is the contextualisation sentence redundant (better spent on analysis).
Thanks!

It doesn't hurt, it's only one sentence.

I always feel like (from the one LA I've written) that contextualising it makes it read less like a VCE English essay and more like an actual. university level analytical piece. Which is good.

EDIT: Although this depends on the extent to which you contextualise. One sentence obviously wouldn't have that much of an effect but is still a good thing to do, just to superficially demonstrate that you understand that language is important in not just constructing prose but providing an argument or shaping a discourse.
