For a question like Q1)b) from VCAA 2011 Exam 2, do we need to show working out? Is it sufficient to just write the equation need to solve and then chuck in calculator and spit out the answers. It's a two mark question and requires two points so Im assuming its 1 mark per point?

I think it was 1 mark for working out the other circle equation, and one mark for the answer. I'm pretty sure that's about all I wrote.

So no need to work it all out by hand?

1 mark for eqn.
1 mark for answer
You're allowed to either work it out by hand or by CAS, whichever you prefer.

I don't remember showing any working for the points, it was sort of an inspection thing, though I did write the other circle equation. I think I mentioned they intersect on the line y = x since they are inverse relations, but that probably wasn't necessary.
