Title: Do we have to know about a unsuccessful referendum?
Post by: sabii on November 03, 2012, 05:37:36 pm
Hi Guys,
I was just wondering that on the study design it says that we must know about the impact of a successful referendum however there is no real reference to a unsuccessful referendum, does this mean that we dont have to know about a unsuccessful referendum, or does the successful referendum indirectly imply that we should know about a unsuccessful referendum as well? Thank you.

As far as I know, you only need to know a successful referendum that altered the division of law-making powers between the state and Commonwealth parliaments. :)

Edit: missed a letter :P

You don't have to but knowing one might help explain factors that can undermine a referendum's success which is on the study design. For example 1999 referendum for a republic didn't have federal consensus as then PM John Howard didn't support it among others.
