Title: Vivo and Imaginal Exposure?
Post by: danielgb123 on November 04, 2012, 10:55:08 pm
Hey guys,

I've looked through my notes and noticed that I have conflicting terms in Vivo and Imaginal exposure.

Vivo - Virtual reality technology
Imaginal - Real life exposure (most effective)

Is that correct? I also have it the other way round in my notes! lol  :-\

Other way around. In vivo involves bringing the patient into direct contact with the fear-producing stimulus. Imaginal requires the patient to imagine situations involving the fear-producing stimulus

Cheers!

So does imaginal fall under the definition of virtual reality technology?

And I'd assume vivo is more effective due to the direct contact?

Virtual reality technology is pretty much a class of its own, since it doesn't really involve the patient actually imaging the situations, but it isn't direct real life exposure either

Yeah, in vivo is the most effective  :)
