Title: ACCT20002 Intermediate Financial Accounting - I'm screwed!!
Post by: kolol on November 13, 2012, 09:27:58 pm
Hello guys,

I've just transfered to Melbourne uni and got credited for ATA and ARA. After I had a look at my friend's ATA lecture notes, although I understood the IFA lecture materials, I realised there're some stuff which i did not do. Subsequently, I emailed my lecturer to ensure everything is ok... and he told me to it's too late now and focus onto the presented material...  :'(

So... has anyone done IFA? Do you think I should be ok for the exam if I understand the IFA lecture, tutorial, and textbook materials?

Look at thr past yr papers - best guide on how difficult and specific the exam will be. If you understand the lectures and the tutorial work then you should be fine. In the same boat as you, transferred this yr and got credits for intro micro/macro and ata/ara. Did inter micro and macro and the had a look at the topics for intro macro/micro taught at melb and realised they covered topics not included in my previous uni. Still did well in them because I understood the lectures and the tutorial work.

Dont stress yourself, review the tute questions and past exams - if yOu can do them, then chances are you will be fine for the exam.

they did give practice exams but not past exams, and they specifically stated that those practice exams don't neccessarily reflect the style or content of the real exam.

Although it's 2 days before the IFA exam.
I did ARA and ATA at unimelb, and although the lecturer keeps mentioning "As you did in ARA and ATA"; let me assure you IFA is distinct from the other two.
In my opinion ARA was a repeat of VCE accounting, whereas ATA was slightly similar to IFA (we had consolidation entries much like lecture 8 for IFA and revaluation with lower level of difficulty ).
Other than that there is nothing similar.
Never did foreign currency translations/transactions.
Nor did we do NCI, associates, DTA/DTL, Maybe a tinge of leases.

So if you understand the content for the lectures and tutorials...well then you're one step ahead of me already! And i did previous accounting subjects here.

GOODLUCK!    ps. watch out for the tricks in the questions!!

Yeah, you too. I'm sure there will be a lot of tricks in the exam questions, and I'm sure we will have to complete a consolidation worksheet. >.<
