Title: Uni Events at Night
Post by: swiftie on March 06, 2013, 05:04:57 pm
Hello everyone

So I live in the south-east area of Melbourne, towards Dandenong.  When travelling to uni, I have to walk to the bus stop (10 mins), take a bus to the train station (10-15 mins, Pakenham/Cranbourne line), take a train to Melbourne Central/Flinders St (around 40 mins) and then a tram up Swanston St (5-15 mins depending which station I get off).

I don't have my P plates so I can't drive to/from the station yet.  I don't turn 18 for another month and have only done around 60/120 hours so I likely won't be able to get my P plates until after Semester 1 I think, depending on how I go.

A lot of uni events (club events, movie nights, dinners, etc) happen in the evening/night at Parkville campus.  How safe is it to travel from uni to my place in the evening/night?

FYI I am a guy though I'm not particularly strong/muscly lol

Answer: 100% safe.  I lived in West Philadelphia, on a university campus, and there were muggings and armed robberies outside my dorm and n the nearest corner every second night.  I felt safe at all times!  Still walked around at 2am etc.  I thought Dandenong already had those transport police in place as well.  Go 4 it.

Make friends at uni who live in the inner city and use them as motels.

Even though this might sound as a joke, it's actually a brilliant idea. You have no idea how handy it is. Especially if you are going to the same party etc. Be nice and buy them lunch the next day maybe but yea... This.
I live in the South Eastern Suburbs and need to bus home from the train station. It's relatively safe where I am but having to rely on a train AND bus to get home means you can't leave the city too late. Not fun.

South-east? Just be like "Bro, I know Razai and Mohammed". 100% chance of protection.

Lala1911 knows how to "drive" 60 hours in a matter of 60 minutes of writing.
I hope you understand what I'm saying here..  ::)

Make friends that can drive you, find a friend to crash with in the city, stay out late enough for a train, or get 4-5 people to cab it home (roughly 15 each to Dandy).

Saturday night, Queens Street megarank also for shared taxis.
