Lol, we didn't know a better place to ask so I came to this forum.
My mate and I both do spesh but we go to different schools. Probably around 60% of the kids who do spesh are Asian (including me) at in my year level but my mate (who's a wog) says that at his school, over 80% of the kids who do spesh are Asian lol.
We're both just interested in the statistics lol, we have a bet going on, so just comment below saying what ethnicity you are, and if you really want to help us, tell us what percentage of your specialist class is Asian. :P
Thanks.

...Hmmm, ok.
2011 stats from my spesh class (well, also my Eng, chem, physics and methods class too):
Asian (Chinese, Jap, Korean, etc.): 12/25 = 48%
Asian (the above + Indians, Lankans, etc.): 18/25 = 72%

At my school it's only 3/ 30

4/6 at LSC :P
-
Of course I'm Asian. Along with the other 3/4 of my spesh class.
-
I'm of Italian descent, and the vast majority of students at my school are also of a European background. I think there's only 15 kids in a year level of about 180 that are Asian.
In my Specialist class, we have two Asian students in a class of about 25.
Bucking the trend ftw

This is a stupid thread, seriously. The answers are all going to be anecdotal evidence which will depend on what area and which school you come from. You're not really going to get an answer, and secondly, does it really make a difference what ethnicity everyone is?

Good question.
The reason my mate and I were talking about the majority of Asians doing specialist math is because we were talking about my school's footy teams and out of all 3 teams in years 11 and 12, I'm the only Asian that plays footy (that's like 1 out of 80 or so Asian guys lol, out of like 240 year 11/12 boys).
My mate then said that it's because all the other Asians are too busy studying for spesh maths (we always give each other crap lol) and then we started talking about our classes and it turned into this lol.
Also guys, by Asians, I mean us ching chong ones, not the Indian ones lol.

Mate, that's a bit racist (in addition to your use of "wogs" earlier). Tone it down a little.
Cheers

While I am inclined to agree with you, there's no need to attack the thread. It isn't breaking any forum rules and he's entitled to merely ask a question, even if you think it's stupid and pointless.

Lol my mates (both at school and outside of school) all give each other a lot of shit and 'label' one another for fun (a hella lot of my Italian and Greek mates refer to themselves as wogs o_o, heck at lunchtime we usually play soccer having "Bogans and Asians vs wogs lol) but I apologize if I did offend you in anyway.
I'll tone it down.

My general advanced class is 3/7 filos

Well, yes. Ethnic imbalances in subject enrolment (e.g. disproportionately many 'Asians' doing maths/science subjects) can be an interesting topic to look at. A thread composed of anecdotal evidence and some borderline-racist language probably isn't going to provide much of an insight into that, though.

Interesting, in my quantum physics class (which is a stream of students hoping to go to physics/chemistry/math graduate school), out of 40 students, only one is east asian. Another two are south asian.
-
In the 2 spesh classes of my school there is 1 Asian dude.
-
in my gma class before i dropped it, it was 3/25 white people (including me) about 10 south asian (indian, sri lankan, pakistani) and the rest viet/chinese
the other gma class is like 8/25 south asian 13/25 viet/chinese 3 white students and an aboriginal

Here is something interesting:
In my methods class of 20...17/20 are of some asian decent. The other ethnicities are 1 greek, 1 mauritian(they don't consider themselves African even if they are..geographicly), and I a Nigerian.

I'd love to participate in this discussion, but I don't want to risk another 1 month ban, so I'll just answer your question promptly and make no comment regarding the numbers:
Me: not Asian
9/10 people in my specialist cohort were not Asian
