So it is the end of term 1 and for many of us VCE students, we may be feeling tired and drained after a long term full of sacs, assessments and a lot of work.
So my purpose of making this post? Maybe to inspire some readers.
I have been using Atar Notes for some time now and what a brilliant community this is; as of late I have seen some posts in relation to 'academic achievement', 'lacking motivation' and just generally not believing.
I want to start of by saying, Year 12 and VCE in general can take its tole on the body. There is no doubt that after 8-10 weeks of school you feel tired and drained and doing work is a lot more difficult than it was during the first few weeks of the term when summer was in full sprout. The days are becoming shorter and darkness comes much more quickly now; with this movement winter comes, sacs begin to pile and it all just seems like too much. Is this a reason to say 'Oh no its too hard?' 'Oh I will never reach my intended goal?' I will put it simple, no.
VCE is difficult, yes let's not go around that. It challenges its participants not only mentally and intellectually but emotionally and physically. It will bring the best and worst out of us as times and the icing on the cake is the sleep deprivation.
I am not being cynical though, sure we get pushed but isn't that a good thing? I mean being pushed to our limit is what will cause us to make new ground and further improve. Basically I will go back to the point of 'academic achievement'. If there is one thing I want everyone who reads this post to understand is, you can all achieve the scores you want. There is no secret to success, its about hard work and doing it with the proper methodology. Some may argue 'But oh I don't have the natural talent'. Well do you think that Shakespeare started writing like he did out of the blue? Probably not, he probably made some many drafts and plans until he got it, just right.
DO NOT, fall into this idea that just because you weren't born with the ability to do crazy amounts of math in your head, or you can't write the essays you want you will never get there. You will get there but first you need to take that idea of being in that position and put it into motion; have a dream and say to yourself 'I will get there' do not let fear stand in the way of your dreams '45+ study score is the top 2% of the state' I believe do not be scared if you want it, make yourself be in that 2%. Work hard and remember your dreams on those cold winter nights were it all seems like to much, remember your dream, picture the feeling of yourself getting there.
It is brilliant if you have natural talent, we all do to some extent but couple even the smallest amount with hard work, that is how you get those scores you want.
Persistence, patience and practice will help you get there, if you do something wrong in task or question, remember it and take note of it; try not to make the mistake again. Persist, persist, persist be stubborn and don't let go of your dreams and realize that if you put in the hard yards you can get there.
To the class of 2013, the days may be early in our journey but the challenges of VCE are already apparent. Let's not let fear stand in the way of our dreams, let's push for our goals and help each other be were we all want to be. Anyone can get the score they want, don't doubt yourself and it isn't too late to start. Put in the work and believe in your own abilities.
I hope whoever reads this, has gained some form of benefit.

Ah yes, I am not reading Year of Wonders myself, haha it seems like a popular text in VCE English.
You never know, maybe you could discuss Mompellion's ability to motivate the town, in one of your essays. :D
