Written this so far was just wondering how it looks?

Prompt: A person’s sense of individual identity is always changing in response to their experiences of life.

Our identity is forever changing with the circumstances we face in life, how we see ourselves and how others view us changes as we are exposed to new environments. As we expose ourselves to the world around us we inevitably face experiences both good . Throughout our lives we encounter conflict, whether it be large or small the outcome is always the same, resolution and as a part of this we learn something which would trigger a personal change. It can be seen as some that our personal identity stays the same throughout our lives, and it is only how others view us that changes and not how we view ourselves.

As we grow older and expose ourselves to different environments we are also subject to experiences both good and bad. To many, our first experience in life comes as we are growing up, our interactions with our parents and loved ones ultimately affects how we structure our identity and how inevitably we learn to trust. As evidence in ‘Skin’, Sandra Laing’s upbringing as a ‘white’ by her parents ultimately shapes who she sees herself to be, this in accompaniment of the way ‘coloured’ workers are treated paves the way for her interpretation of future experiences. This can be seen as Sandra. in response to “I have many black friends” states “Im not black”, this in conjunction with the way in which she has been outcast by the other students leaves a pondering look on Sandra’s face as if she was thinking “Am I coloured” this can give us a visualisation of how our upbringing can structure our identity, but also how experiences can shape how we see ourselves and may trigger a change in our personal identity. A way in which we can see this also is within our personal lives, we have all experienced something that has made us think or rethink who we are as a person, this may be through something influential inspiring us or seeing something happen that we may have never before.

Conflict is a part of our lives, whether the conflict is within ourselves or with someone of something else, whether the conflict is big or small there is always a resolution, and with resolution comes a lesson learnt.  As we experience conflict in a physical manner, maybe a confrontation, in the situation we may run or stand our ground,, this is known as fight or flight instinct. The outcome of the situation would teach us a lesson, and maybe even change us, if we lose a fight we think we are weak and seek a path that makes us feel stronger, either to pick on someone smaller or to “bulk” up and become stronger so we may seek revenge.
