Hi, I was wondering if anybody could explain how ethics and socially responsibility are different? Both in terms of definitions and examples. Cheers
-
Ethics refers to a set of moral principles that an organisation needs to establish and follow.
Social responsibility is the extra efforts an organisation goes to for the wellbeing of its stakeholders, particularly the environment and the community.
An example of ethics is hiring people from a variety of races, ethnic backgrounds and genders ie. not being discriminatory
For an example of social responsibility, let's take Shell as an example. Shell dig up the ground and cause damage to the environment. So to be socially responsible, they plant more trees. Another general example of social responsibility is an organisation sponsoring an event in the local community, like a football game.
Hope this helps :)

Here is just my input:
Ethics is abiding by moral standards and doing what is right and being honest, fair and respectful to all involved.
Whilst social responsibility is going above and beyond what is expected of the business.
An example for ethics would be being clear and honest with employees when making decisions regarding downsizing.
Whilst social responsibility usually related to the community and environment. Like ensuring the during the transformation stage of the operations system that the waste material doesn't harm the environment.

These are my definitions :D
Business ethics refer to the moral standards that govern an organisation's practices.
Social responsibility refers to how an organisation intends to benefit the environment and wider community, beyond that of legal requirements.

Hey guys,
Just a question on social and ethical responsibility - if you are asked to analyse social and ethical issues with the two strategies you previously states, would you get two marks for defining social and ethical, and two marks for analysing social and ethical issues with the two strategies?
If not, how do you get 6 marks for just analysing social and ethical responsibilites ?UHH.
There was also a question saying 'explain social responsibility' and I'm not sure how you could get 3 marks. It wasn't linked to anything either .

Ethics, socially responsible management are two different areas.
for your question, you outline ethics, outline socially responsibility and give an example, such as trying to reduce the amount of packing as plastic usually ends up in landfill anyway.
-try to show the examiner that you know outside of just the book and provide an example. don't just rely on the prompt, if there is nothing there, give your own
