Judicial determination is a court hearing just in VCAT?

Judicial determination takes upon the approach of the courts through a Judicial offier, juge, magistrate hearing both parties cases and then making a legally binding decision. this is what happens in the magistrates courts right??

-Judicial determination does not allow parties to resolve the dispute themselves.
-judicial determination is not informal, it is not cheap, it is not timely lol,
- judicial determination is good when the bargaining power is not equal, thus meaning when a 80 year old lady and a 30 year old engineer go to litigation, who you think has more authority, an old lady or a experience man is his prime.

I usually use the example of an employer and an employee but I find this much more amusing.
