Would it be possible to be exempt from the "At least 62.5 points at Level 1 [science subjects]" component of the BSc? I've been going through the handbook and at this stage my ideal course plan consists of only 50 points in Level 1 science.
Also, how liberal is the university with allowing first years to study Level 2 subjects? I've completed the equivalent of 25 points of credit as part of a MUEP program if that helps.

It doesn't matter what year you're in, you can study whatever level you like. Provided that you complete the course requirements and have satisfied the requirements for individual subjects before enrolling them, you'll have no troubles and can do what you like.

It's hard to avoid cuz you can't really use major-related arguments for it. What kind of lv 1 subject do you think you will be most comfortable with filling in the final slot? (If there is any) Bio? Physical sciences? Math? Astro? Geo? There are plenty of options.
And as said above, you can do lv 2 subjects in year 1 provided you already finish the prerequisites. I did 2 of them in my second semester (2013 Sem 1) lol.

I'm fairly certain that they are pretty strict with the course requirements (i.e. you probably do have to do 62.5 points of Level 1 study)… but it wouldn't hurt to ask them, I suppose, just give 13 MELB a call.
Unless someone on AN has done the same thing (taken less Level 1 points than required) I doubt you'll get a solid answer here. Just call the uni.

Ask ASAP as if you want exemptions, you may have to sit exams to assess your abilities in the relevant subjects. Perhaps ask Nicholas, it seems he was granted an exemption from taking BSc level 1 prerequisite subjects Re: [Chemistry 2] Questions

I did actually ask the university the same question as my own study plan also only has 50 points of level 1 subjects, not including UMEP (I really don't want to waste 25 points crediting those) but the university was so kind to say "we can't help you as you're not enrolled in the degree yet". Honestly, that part of university policy is ridiculous. As a result, I'm not too sure. My case is weird though, because as I plan on doing a maths diploma and as I'm eligible for Chancellors, I can get an entire diploma done for free, so I can move as many maths subjects as possible away from my BSc into my diploma to free up more space, so crediting UMEP isn't so much of a hassle for me.
One thing the university staff DID tell me, however, was that you'd need to credit 62.5 points of level 1 science subjects as that is the basic structure of the BSc. It's a dud rule and I'm not sure if you can get around it. Try talking to them; I know I will.
But yeah, I'm planning on doing 3 level 2 subjects next year. I'm hoping they let us.
Which MUEP did you do? If it was chemistry...the MUEP and UMEP chemistry courses are quite different. I don't know about the others though.
