Title: Explain what a historical precedent is please?

Hi all,
I'm currently finalising my script for my POV oral for English. On our assessment sheet, we have a list of techniques to use for higher marks and one of them is a historical precedent. Is this when you use an historical example to support your argument?

For my presentation, I'm arguing that we need to boycott labels that use unethical clothing factories. In my presentation, I'm using the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh for my historical precedent but I'm not too sure if the collapse is actually a historical precedent or not?

I think you have the right idea. A precedent is basically an event that occurred at an earlier point in time which can serve as an example or model upon encounter with a similar situation. You often hear people say, 'X sets a dangerous precedent for Y.'
