Title: Question about achieving an atar of 90 plus
Post by: ahoyman on January 25, 2014, 11:11:37 am
hey,

i am a moderate student averaging around B's for all subjects

if i try my hardest this year, put in 100% effort and do this consistently throughout the year, can an atar of 90 plus be achieved?

thanks for your help!

Definitely.

Plenty of people get 90+ without putting anywhere near 100% effort.

Plenty of people also kid themselves into believing that they're putting in 100% - or near that - when they're not.

Getting B's by VCAA standards in run-of-the-mill VCE subjects won't get you a 90+.

Khendjer just explained the harsh reality of VCE. There are students that work really hard but still don't get a 90+ ATAR and there are those that don't try as hard but do get it. BUT there are also students that work hard but unlike the other working hard students these students also work smart. This sounds cliché but you have to find a study technique that suits you best, don't adopt other students study techniques, instead modify them to suit your situation at home, school etc.
Saying you will put in 100% effort in everything this year and actually doing it are two completely different things. There will be times you will feel like giving up, but just hang in there. I used to get D's and B's in Bio 1/2 and further 1/2 in year 11 but a close friend explained to me my faults in my study technique and pretty much everything I just mentioned above, and lol I got that 90+ ATAR. Just remember anyone can get a 90+ ATAR, its just the way they go about it. I'm sure you can turn those B's into A's.

I believe that effort will always get you somewhere; be it success or realising failure only for a better chance at achieving what you really want.
Saying you aim to put in 100% effort is good, but it is more important to act upon it.

Whatever your ATAR is, a person who says "I gave it everything and I achieved my full potential" are the real winners of VCE.

In regards to your ATAR, any score is possible if you give it your all. Best of luck!
