I think Melbourne have just decided to focus on the traditional disciplines for quite a while.

But I'm sure that they'll soon have a Masters in Aerospace Engineering or something like that in a few years.

lol kopite, aerospace engineering has been around for nearly 9 decades.

It's a pretty firmly entrenched stream of Engineering. I don't think UoM has the resources to offer it, unfortunately. They don't have the practical equipment necessary to teach students about the various aerospace applications, nor the staff members. It's not a particularly large industry in Australia so I guess they decided that the market didn't require an extra university teaching it on top of RMIT and Monash.

Monash> Melbourne? True?

If you're interested in this area of study, you are obviously far better off choosing the course @ Monash to pursue your dreams rather than choosing the uni (Melbourne) for other reasons (and studying something shieet).

In what sense?

In the sense that he goes to the former, and not the latter. :p

okay, if i reallyy want to do this course, then id have to go to monash, which is really really far away from my home (i live near ascot vale). RMIT is pretty close, except im not sure on the quality of their courses (ive heard people at my school say that it sucks). I dont wanna have some shit worthless qualifications on my CV....
I am currently thinking of settling for a different course (but less interesting than aerospace), except at melbourne uni (biomedicine or Bsc maths), but ideally, melbourne uni would offer aerospace and everything would be goodd......  :)
so do u guys recommend that i make an effort to get to monash or maybe settle for a Melbuni course??? ... or maybe RMIT(aerospace) if its actually any good or respected.

I'm pretty sure that if aerospace is your goal go for it at monash!

My main preferences revolved around monash and melbourne (two exceptionally good uni's). I wanted to do a degree that allowed me to experience as many areas as possible as I really didn't have the information to actually go for a specific area right at the start (hence why I did science at melbourne).

Melbourne university though I have a sense that its very much vested in chemical and biological engineering as its two main engineering areas. I was considering doing chemical engineering, but, I couldn't give up physics yet (so if I major in some area of engineering, electrical, civil or mechanical would be ideal).

The thing is I don't really know a lot about RMIT and apparently it is very good with engineering (apparently much more practical than melbourne). The majority of students go to do degrees with either Monash or Melbourne (These are the 2 BIG universities of victoria). Another thing and this may have no merit but I think its prententious to add a 'R' to MIT (a.k.a. THE university in america (and basically the world) to do your engineering degree).

ok my bad. qshyrn....have u looked at maybe renting a place near clayton?? cos monash >> rmit in engineering definetely.

Are there any statistics on the number of jobs in the industry?  I would hardly imagine that you would have great career prospects (at least in Australia) with such a pursuit.  After all, that's why people do Engineering right, to get a job?
