Title: Is it hard to get over 35 in methods?
Post by: chocolatechipcookies on May 18, 2014, 08:37:08 pm
Hi,

I'm in Year 11 but I'm doing 3/4 methods this year.

At the end of last year (1/2 methods), my teacher recommended me not to do 3/4 methods because she thought I couldn't cope with it and she said it'd be best that I repeat 1/2 methods seeing as i had 'failed' all my tests and I usually get 40-50%. (I got 75% on the end of year exam however).

Obviously now it's too late to pull out, but I only got 7/10 on the first SAC. (the average was 7.5/10 but I know heaps of people got 9/10 so I think my rank is pretty low :/). I don't find methods too hard atm and I'm not struggling, but I don't have a tutor (no time). I only pretty much do the questions my teacher sets in class and nothing extra as I have no time...my asian parents will get v mad/annoyed if I can't get a study score of 45+, but I realistically think I can only get a 30-35. I'm aiming for 35.

anything I can do? Thanks in advance :)

what are the things preventing you from doing methods? maybe try to get around/reduce them because methods is quite important. Try doing checkpoints or watch videos on methods.

What do you mean by what's preventing me?

what are things that cause you to have no time? e.g. if its a job try to reduce or stop it.

Because I am doing 7 subjects and another one of them is a 3/4

I'm not sure what to do. Generally at my school if someone had 7 subjects they could drop one even at this stage of term so maybe speak to your teacher and convince them to drop something

Hey!

I find that you're in sorta the same boat as me

~ Two 3/4s (MM and chink haha)
~ Mad azn parents hahaha dw asian expectations everywhere

Try to keep it all in perspective! If methods is really getting out of hand, just work on Chinese, crank a couple of prac methods exams and  you'll probably get a better scale ratio on Chink.

At the end of the year, parents (generally) will be happier with a 45+ on one subject and a 30 on the other rather then two 35+s.

Good luck!

P.S if you feel like ranting feel free to pm haha

The school won't let me, and there are lots of others in the same boat (7 subjects), unless I had some personal reason like depression or something idk lol.

Anyway I have my next SAC coming up (the one worth 40% eek!) fingers crossed

Yeah I just had it. Flunked the third component. Stupid lack of consequential marks :(

Oh well, just gotta chalk it up for next time :)

good luck!
