The Law of Conservation of Energy states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, just transformed from one form to another.
but umm.. where did it come from??
any responses greatly appreciated.

This is more of a philosophical question than one related to physics, granted, physics is a useful tool for generating new ideas. As there is currently no method for determining what events took place prior to the inception of what I loosely term "the universe", it is unknown where all energy originated from. Maybe you have ideas on what sort of conditions space-time was subject to right before the big bang?

It is true that energy cannot have come out of nothing. Thus the very fact that we are alive and energy exists is a clear testament to the existence of a sentient being -> a Creator outside of our universe. The Big Bang Theory simply doesn't make sense to me as it defies the very law you have stated. The idea of an intelligent designer outside of our dimension and thus, above the said law seems to be a very plausible, if not, the ONLY plausible explanation of the existence of energy...imho, please don't kill me

Doesn't that just sort of ignore the question? Because if energy needed t come form somewhere for something to exist, the same issue applies to the idea of a Creator as well as the universe.

Maybe think of it this way, since the Creator created this universe, he probably created the laws of Physics within it too. For all we know this law does not even work outside of our own universe!
The laws of Physics are to our universe as say, programming scripts are to a program. The program cannot disobey the script and neither can our universe disobey the Laws of Physics. But from a programmer's point of view, the script has no authority or power over him and vice versa.

At this point you're no longer doing physics anyway, so the question becomes a little uninteresting, I think :P

If there is one thing that has remained constant with human beings both past and present, it is the innate curiosity of how we truly came to exist. Something that is unlikely to be quenched once the VCE Physics course has ended ;)

This is quite similar to asking: "If we are all our parents' descendants, and our parents are the descendants of their parents and so on, then who were the first 'parents'?" And this again takes us back to the questions about the origin of the universe (eg. big bang theory) and the various ideas about the existence.
So I think the question asked by the OP belongs to subjects like Philosophy and Religion and Society. I dont think VCAA will bombard us with such questions in the physics exam.
In physics, we only need to know that energy is conserved and exists in different forms. The forms we mainly consider in our AOS are kinetic, gravitational potential, spring potential, and probably heat.
