Hi Guys.
I just had one quick question. When applying for uni, is it compulsory to have a tax file number? I am a permanent resident, so I am aware that I am not eligible for the HECS-HELP. I know that I have to make the Student Contribution upfront. So I do need to provide them with one, given that I will not be granted any loan and would be making the student contribution before the Census Date?
Thanks

Since no one has answered - I think it's best if you ask this question in the 'Ask The University of Melbourne' thread, or get in touch with 13 MELB. I'm not exactly sure what the answer is, but I have a feeling that you don't need a tax file number with the situation you're in.

I agree with the above - I'm pretty sure you don't need a TFN since you aren't applying for HECS (government loan).

Either way, I think it's worth getting a TFN. You'll need it at some point in your life, might as well get it now :)
