Hi all,
I am looking for advice on how to revise for the Further Exam. At school we are doing one timed practise exam per week. We had our first one last week and I got 35/40 Exam 1. I got straight A+'s for the SAC's at a school that would usually get 5+ students above 40 a year. I am looking for a score of 44+. I am in year 11 and will have plenty of time to study.
Would it be worth keeping a log book of the questions I got wrong on the practise exams?
Any advice is welcome.
Thankyou

Do past exams and try not to make many mistakes. The issue with Further is that ALOT of students trip up on minor mistakes and as a result can impact the study score quite a bit. Understand how to properly do sample problems using the calculator to minimise the time required to review notes. 90 minutes goes fast.

I was making a similar amount of mistakes leading up to the exam and ended up getting a 50, so here's what I did:
Every time I made a mistake I would write it in the first page of my summary book in words and/or with diagrams or what ever I need, saying what type of question it was, what I did wrong and what I should do whenever I see a similar question. Because both the exams used a summary book, I would also have my summary book with me whenever I did a practice exam. The 'mistakes' section was split into the different topics, so every time I would, for example, start the graphs & relation section of a practice exam, I would read through that mistakes section before trying to answer that section, so I hopefully won't make the same mistake again. I even did this in the exam, since if you're quite strong at maths you shouldn't be pushed for time, so it is definitely worth it. After doing most of the available VCAA exams plus a few others, you'll have a pretty good log of all the different mistakes you can make and hopefully it'll help with avoiding them. :)

My school hasn't started practice exams yet, but i feel i should start practice exams now. Is it a bit late for me to starting practice exams now?

Yeah, its waaaay too late. Say goodbye to your 50 study score.
In all seriousness, you should only start if you have finished the coursework and have a deep understanding of it. And no, it is definitely not too late, especially considering the fact you are in year 11 doing a 3/4. You have a lot of time to devote in this subject.

Thanks for the reply man, and yeah i guess that's true, I have finished the coursework, although i have one SAC remaining and that's coming up soon.

Forget about exams for the moment, focus all your energy into that SAC (try to get 100%) then start exam revision.
You don't need months of extensive revision for further, seeing as you're in year 11 you'll have loads of time.
Don't worry about it.
