Title: Studying these holidays
Post by: vceendpls on September 24, 2015, 01:49:24 pm
Hey guys,
Just as a rough estimate, how many hours per day have you all been studying these holidays for? and how many practice exams per day?

I study from when I wake up to when I go to bed #nolife (with a few breaks). So probably about 12 hours a day and 2-3 practice exams.

Similar actually, I've procrastinated half this year, might as well end on a high note.

I've been doing around 10 hours, one specialist exam, one methods exam, one English essay and half a chem exam on top of going through the course
Problem is that every essay still takes me 2-3 hours :/ sigh

You guys are so hardcore ;D

I don't get to study much these days (probs not very wise) completing average of 1 exam a day for methods...

aha...

For the week I have three intensive days and 2 chill days where intensive days are at my local library doing a full English exam, Chemistry and Specialist Exam 1 under timed conditions before going home and taking a rest. For the other days I've been at home completing Biology, Physics and Specialist Exam 2 untimed as well reviewing English plans though half the time I'm procrastinating at home LOL (which is why studying at the library helps for me)!

I'm still dreading 3 essays in 3 hours. I still don't know how on earth I'm going to write decently okay essays.

Really, really don't want to fail English fml

Haha it's a struggle which is why I'm starting early LOL but it gets easier with practice (since you'll have to do it anyway ;O)

I'm trying to get around 8 hours a day, 6 minimum. I was down with the flu for the last few days, so I've been robbed off(/of? GG English) some study time

I'm in the same boat for English, takes me about 2 hours to write a decent essay.
I now have 4 unfinished essays, all of them started within the span of this week, because I've given up half way through

I echo this, every word! (same situation lol)

Really want to say, don't stress or think that it's unusual and everyone is ahead of you.  I thought that so hard that I gave up on English, totally, by this point in the year - I think I twice tried to write an essay, and gave up on both, but other than that, I didn't write a single essay between now and the exam because I was so terrified.  But if I, with this history, managed to not only semi-finish the exam but get (amazingly) an A+, will you guys manage it or not!?  Keep working at it guys, you'll pull it off :))

9/10 of my essays the whole year were unfinished due to giving up, though.  That's why I really recommend starting small (hence my obsession with letters to the editor :P) and gradually building up confidence and skills.

And one other thing, do you have some family member or friend you can use to force you to write an essay?   Before my last SAC, I literally got Mum to force me to sit on the seat (took 3 1/2 hours the first time) until I finished an essay.  Works well.

I've given more detail here (the last post in the thread).

You've inspired me to write no practice essays

Thanks, always glad to pretend I know something :D

Well yeah, I know the VCAA English Department ain't great with numbers, but I wouldn't bank on them mistakenly swapping the study score digits for you, just because they happened to with me.

(... but yeah, I should remember not to advertise that little work = good scores... working would defs have improved my score; I just want to remind y'all that you're seriously not the only ones struggling, so take heart and do the work because the occasional fluke isn't much to rely on)

Just out of curiosity, if you're home educated isn't every day a 'holiday' per se?

May be a bit ignorant seeing as I have no experience xD
