Title: Rescind vs Revoke vs Repeal
Post by: michael leahcim on January 08, 2016, 10:28:12 am
Hi, I was wondering whether if there were any connotative differences between these words. It's that I just seem to always be using them interchangeably. Couldn't help but feel a little curious as to what someone might say about them.

Thanks!

They are basically all synonyms.

rescind is to annul, or declare void; to take (something such as a rule or contract) out of effect.
revoke is to invalidate by withdrawing or reversing a statement, promise or declaration
repeal is used in a legislative context and means to revoke or annul (particularly a law or act of parliament)
