Title: advice should i prioritise umat prep or sac study?
Post by: TwinNerd on June 28, 2016, 11:29:03 am
background info:
- I already screwed up my 2 3/4's last year, so I know my atar isn't going to be 99+
- my sacs have been pretty bad below 80% for chem
- methods, further and eng lang are going okay and are redeemable if I do good in the next sacs

but I feel like I'm running out of time i have so much prep to do for umat and i have like 3 sacs in the first two weeks of school next term that I need to study for. I really really want to get into med but realistically things aren't looking great:(

Please help, any advice? Is there still hope?
Thanks.

Thanks.

OF COURSE THERE'S STILL HOPE!
(sorry for caps but YEAH just because of a few meh sacs doesn't mean you won't get into med) Each sac is worth about less than 1% of your entire ATAR and it all comes down to the end of year exams.
As for the SAC scores, your ranking within your class is all that matters (In case this makes you feel better, I got 67% for my spesh sac which was worth 100% of unit 3 XD but ended up being rank 2 by 0.27% :P )

Hmmm as for which to prioritise, I'd personally keep doing whatever you're doing (assuming you've been studying for both), don't neglect one for the other and instead find a balance. You've got 1 and a half weeks of school holidays which is plenty of time to fit both of them in :)

I'd personally work harder in whichever I feel less confident in. Oh and make a study timetable :D
Block in sessions when you want to study for UMAT and for your SAC, and also don't forget to block in times where you just kick back and relax (so you can be fully refreshed for term 3 :))

And also don't forget that there is no set ATAR for the med entry line, I know quite a few people who got into Med with medium 90s atar and similar percentile in their UMAT.

Nothing's stopping you in getting into Med except your faith in yourself
I BELIEVE IN YOU

now go study :}

My spesh SAC was worth 100% of my unit 3 as well :D ;D (haven't got our marks back though)
Elizawei has pretty much said it all. Have faith in yourself and you still have unit 4 and the exams at the end of the year, which are the be all end all.

As for UMAT, acquaint yourself by doing practice questions and if you're fortunate enough to have the med-entry drills, do them too. I don't think the UMAT will come down to the quantity of exams you do (I know I'm not going to get all of mine done :P) but the quality of the preparation you put in i.e. strengthening your weak sections and increasing your vocab for section 2. Anecdotally psyxwar literally did about 3-4 weeks of preparation and did well. So have many others, and it's largely because the UMAT happens during the busiest part of the year. Stay calm and study on!!

Hope this helped
