I'm a little confused regarding exactly what you mean, but generally, 'mechanism' in psychology refers to the specific process (generally physiological) which occurs as part of something.

If you can elaborate a little more, I might be a bit more helpful :)

This is not related to psychology but what is the question is what are the mechanisms responsible for acute responses during exercise? This is an example from Pe :)
