Title: Pens or Pencil in the exam?
Post by: elNiggle on November 05, 2016, 11:40:22 am
Hey guys,
just wondering whether I should use pens or pencil in the exam. I heard that if you use pencils the photocopier might not be able to see it, however I'm afraid if I make a mistake the paper will become very messy.

Thanks

They changed it this year, it HAS to be pen now I'm pretty sure. (according to my chem teacher who is an examiner :))
if you're super worried about making mistakes and running out of space, jot some dot points down in pencil first so you have a rough idea of what you want to talk about and then write it in pen :)
Chem doesn't have too much lengthy writing sections so you'll be okay :)

Best of luck for the exam! :D

They really don't like it if you write in pencil. Although pencil can be erased, it is likely to make a mess anyway. Just stick with pen, it is what they request.

They're still gonna mark your exam if it's written in pencil. However, if they can't read it (since they scan the exams), then they will not give you the marks (obviously).

Should add: use B or 2B and you should be fine. Just avoid smudging haha.

Ahh I just did the chem exam today and I wrote some of it in pencil :/
I was going to go over it in black pen but ran out of time, so some of my answers are part pen, part pencil. Has anyone has this experience and did everything turn out okay in the end?

Hey, don't worry about it at all! They mark all the papers they get, and if they can't read it properly they'll track down the actual paper and mark it from there. As long as it's visible it's fine. It will turn out okay in the end :) I did my diagrams/organic drawings in pencil haha
