Welcome to the 8th instalment of ATAR Notes' Ask Me Anything series!

Hope everyone is happy to be done with exams! We are now ready to continue the AMA series with a new person of interest: insanipi! Insanipi was a student of the class of 2016 and is also well known as our resident water cooler mod. Below is a written submission written by her.

Quote
Hi! I'm insanipi. Some of you know me as that water-cooler mod. I recently finished year 12 and studied Chemistry, Physics, Mathematical Methods, English and Specialist Maths. In my spare time, I read books (especially anything that is crime/mystery/spy genre), play arcade games and rollerskate. A random fact is that I have a coloured-in picture of pikachu on my wall, for no apparent reason. I am also the undisputed Monopoly champ at my place- hence why my siblings don't play it with me anymore :P

Ask away!

So when did you first become insane?

That is a good question. I believe it to be when I was little and agreed to the my parents' decision to make me sing and dance as a tiny little primary kid, haha. :)

What are you planning to be up to next year? Do you have any long term career/study goals or are you winging it a little bit for the moment? ;D

Honestly, I'm mostly winging it, however study-wise, I'm definitely looking at doing either a straight science or pharmaceutical science degree 8) (cue my obsession with the chemical structures I have chucked on my wall as well :P )

I haven't read for pleasure since the start of VCE and have no idea what I enjoy anymore. I did like Maus, Persepolis, behind the beautiful forevers and 1984 quite a bit. Got any recommendations for me (perhaps historical/journalistic novels)

Not sure if you'll like these but:
The Book Thief- Markus Zusak
Catcher in the Rye- J D Salinger
Grapes of Wrath- John Steinbeck
My Brother Jack- George Johnston
The Truth- Terry Pratchett
:)

What will you do now that you can't worship at the Temple of J? ;)

Who is your favourite teacher at your school, and how has Harko they influenced you?

What will you do now that you can't worship at the Temple of J? ;)

That, my friend, is a trick question. :P
There was never a Temple of J- it was completely a figment of a certain member of the spesh/methods class' imagination. :P

Who is your favourite teacher at your school, and how has Harko they influenced you?
Favourite teacher at school had to be M- she's probably the equivalent crazy to me. ;)

H- influenced me to believe that it is okay to be a rapper sometimes. :P (#V-Diddy ftw)

But in all seriousness, M totally inspired to pursue my passions, and she influenced me to be as loud as possible when it isn't necessary (cue times I have spoken too loudly in methods/spesh for that reason). ;)

Not a question but you should do advanced science instead. I hear it's pretty dope, with one of the best chemistry mentors this side of the world. 8)

So why monopoly? Why not play a game where everyone has fun and enjoy themselves?

Points for advertising :P

Monopoly, is what I feel is more a chance based game, rather than skill. (Thus the reason I suck at chess, hahaha, I guess you could say I get 'squished' every time I play. :P )
I guess I just like Monopoly more than other games (bar Cluedo- Cluedo is great fun, too) because I seem to usually be extremely lucky in it. :P

What is your favourite Crime/ Mystery book - and do you like thriller books?  :P

What is your favourite Crime/ Mystery book?
My favourite crime book is Murder on the Orient Express- Agatha Christie
If you count young adult books, I absolutely adore I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have To Kill You by Ally Carter to be one of my favourite light-hearted mystery books, otherwise childhood fave Nancy Drew comes in close second! 8)

- and do you like thriller books?  :P
Thriller books I honestly haven't read much of, so I don't have much of an opinion on them, however I honestly enjoy reading the likes of The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum. :)

Favourite board game, and why is it cluedo?
Cludeo is indeed my favourite game ;)

Reasons why:
1. It is the only board game where you have to guess the murder weapon and murderer in a specific room
2. The only one that is called Clue everywhere else but UK/Australia ::)
3. Most importantly

What's the backstory behind your nickname, Squishy ?
Well, my 4 year old sister cannot say my actual name properly, so it comes out with something like wee-shy or squishy, so it stuck, then along came bikini I mean flaws and EEEEEEP on IRC and they both started calling me that, so, alas it stuck. (Inb4 Heidi comes along and changes my username again :P ) Story time with insanipi d:

Who do you look up to in your life? And why?
I look up to everyone due to me being really short. ;)
However, I look up to my parents, as they have been ever so helpful and have been (mostly) my #1 go-to for support. :)

Describe yourself using characters from the books you have read. Could be personality, characteristics, looks or whatever the like. :)

Going by what I've recently read:

If we're talking about the Cherub series by Robert Muchamore:
Personality: smart, cunning, rebellious, feisty;
Looks: short, dirty blonde/nearly brown hair, fit;
Characteristic:usually seen in the wild, climbing trees or ropes.
Spoiler
Oops, I just described one of my favourite characters, Lauren Adams ::)

If we're talking The Selection series by Kiera Cass:
Personality: shy and reserved, but has strong willpower;
Looks: Plain-looking and hair unruly;
Characteristic: Usually seen wearing jeans.
Spoiler
A cross between Kriss Ambers, America Singer and May Singer, if you're curious. :)

Regarding the 'chicken or egg' question from Page 1, here's what I think:
The egg came first. This is because it is the foundation from which the chicken emerges. It's the starting point of its life. Yes, a chicken does have to lay the egg, but from a beginning-of-life standpoint, the egg comes first.
Anyway...

Given the fiasco surrounding early ATAR results being given out to over 2,000 students, should VTAC get a new SMS service provider, and if so, how can this be prevented for December 2017?
