Title: Help! English Holiday Headstart/Improvements
Post by: EdwinaB19 on December 20, 2016, 12:43:09 am
Apologies if any of the following has already been discussed, just direct me to the relevant posts if they have

Apart from reading my novels, writing chapter summaries, and making character profiles, what can I do to get ahead in English during the Christmas holidays?

I'm have a good vocabulary but pretty poor grammar and punctuation skills. I don't know how I can improve them in such a short period of time.

I'll be studying Frankenstein, Stasiland, 1984, and The Complete Maus. Any advice regarding the study of any of these novels would also be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Practice writing! Doesn't have to be full essays or anything, just along as you write. This will help improve your grammar and punctuation, and keep your writing skills in tip top shape. Most students don't write at all during summer break and they usually come back with quite woeful writing skills.

When I started Y12 in Feb, I had to relearn what a text response and language analysis essay looked like cos I'd forgotten all about them over the summer.

With that said, please please please remember to take a break of sorts over the summer because Y12 is stressful enough; you don't want to start the year burnt out already -- it's not fun.
