Nothing bad about coffee unless you're trying to overdose on caffeine or something.

Just don't use coffee as an excuse to pull all-nighters, because THAT backfires. I see no problem with drinking coffee for the health benefits.

I drank a (probably too much) coffee in the HSC; I had to pull a few 2am finishes to get assignments done in the stressful periods. But that's just because I was unorganised ;)

Nothing wrong with coffee; you can develop a little bit of a dependence on it to stay awake though, just be wary of that! :)

Just don't drink it too much, too often  :) because having a lot of coffee will make you tired in fact :) This is because more adenosine receptors (in charge of the level of tiredness) are produced because the caffeine is suppressing it the pre-existing ones. Therefore, your body initiates a positive feedback that produces more adenosine receptors, so once you get off caffeine there will be an excessive amount of adenosine receptors left than before you had caffeine/coffee which will lead you to feel sluggish and tired.

hahahaha you make coffee sound like some sort of drug, like alcohol or cigarette ;D

But in all seriousness, I've read in a book some time ago that coffee in moderate amount is actually good for you as long you don't put too much sugar. So a cup or two a day is perfectly okay, just as long you don't use it excessively to try to keep yourself awake.

See it as a little boost to your alertness, not being dependent on it. Ideally you should be recharge and be refreshed by getting plenty of sleep, not by relying on coffee 8)

What about taking caffeine pills
To stay up and study or do assignment s
Like a few days before exams
Is it worth doing that
And its not like it will be too bad
?

Wouldn't caffeine pills have TOO much caffeine compared to coffee?

Coffee is a drug, just like alcohol and methamphetamine :) Just goes to societal acceptance of certain forms of consciousness-altering states.

Yeah really bad experience..had 4 hours sleep in 2 days of english exams because I was unorganised and didnt start memorising early on. It affected my other exams..had bio straight after paper 2 and I was literally half asleep so bombed out so hard..everyone was surprised with my mark. Atleast I have found something about my self is that I have a good short term memory so before HSC 2 weeks is more than enough to memorise everything properly.

Tip for people who hate coffee: use some sort of hot chocolate powder to make it taste nice. i.e 1 tablespoon instant coffee and 1 tablespoon hot chocolate powder. Also if you are planning to stay up late, don't drink all your coffee immediately because you won't make since you'll get a huge high followed by feeling super tired, it but drink like 1 sip per 5 mins (you may need to microwave after 30 min).

I had 6 coffees in a day once and now I can never drink coffee anymore - please don't do that!

Remember tea is also caffeinated but personally I like to have myself a mocha like aroon suggested! Good to get energy and treat yourself for the hard work you're putting in :)

44 hours!! I can't believe you're still standing I would have died. Not something that I'd recommend you attempt again for your own (and my) sanity, but not gonna lie I'm impressed with your determination.  8) I'm personally on your side in this debate, never liked coffee unless its loaded with milk and sugar (and then at this point the coffee snobs arrive to tell me that I'm ruining it, and I wonder if its even worth the effort!) Might have to give aroon's recipe a go though!

But you'll use more than 2 weeks because you will be way more organised next time ;)

At the end of last year I tried to experiment with replacing coffee for lots of water and I think the results were preettty convincing. I love the taste of coffee, so I definitely still drink it. I found that a lot of the time when I was feeling tired to get through the day, I'd have a whole bottle of water and I'd be feeling alive and awake again. I think we all probably don't drink enough water...so on a daily situation, turn to more water. On an all-nighter situation...ok, coffee it is.

I'm a bit late but this is some advice that a teacher has given:
Have a coffee then take a power nap (10 - 30 min ) straight away, by the time you wake up you feel refreshed and the caffeine would've started working then you can get productive work done (hopefully)

I only use coffee when I need it, so I don't build a tolerance to it :)

Hmm... I thought coffee was bad for you.

The comment regarding its health benefits makes me feel much better about my minimum-two-a-day habit.

If you have it in high concentrations then you're stacking up on caffeine. This is bad.

A bit of coffee every day has no major complications.
