I'm a year 11 student, and my subject change for semester 2 got denied. I was going to swap biology 1/2 for further maths 1/2 but the class was full. Teacher said I could either continue bio or do distance education for further maths. I hate bio, so I was wondering what distance education is like and if it's actually worthwhile. She also said that I can do further 3/4 next year, so I only need to do distance education for one semester if I choose to do it. I hear that 3/4 further doesn't need 1/2, so even if I don't learn anything this year it wouldn't affect much next year anyway?

Hey ilikenoodlez. :) I, too, enjoy noodles!
Can confirm that you definitely don't need Further 1/2 to do well in Further 3/4. I don't have any experience with Distance Education, so can't comment there too much, but yeah - there's no reason you can't do well in Further next year without the 1/2 knowledge.
If you're comfortable sharing (no problem if not), why was your application denied? That seems like a perfectly valid reason to change (on the surface, at least - obviously I don't know the details!).

sister does distance ed: if you're an independent and self motivated worker, you'll do fine. they do interact with you a fair bit but it's obviously much more independent than school-based learning. i'm sure you'd be fine with it as long as you don't fall behind! (: plus, it's only unit two – 3/4 is heaps more important.
for application denial, they said the class was too full for them to be able to switch in (:
