So, we're going to design a short video (as the title suggests). The idea is to make it as easy as possible for new members to navigate and post in the forums. :) Basically, the more in this community, the better - and the easier we can make it, the more likely a greater number is!
It's better for everybody, if you think about it: more questions, more help, more general discussion. Just more to engage with.
Anyway, y'all obviously all know the forums really well. Some of you have been here for many years; others for just days. But we'd love your opinions here, no matter how long you've been around.
The video will probably be like 30-60 seconds, and we want to cover all the important stuff. So my question to you is: what should we cover?
- The actual process of posting?
- Navigating from forum to forum?
- Working out if posts have been responded to?
- Private messaging?
- Quoting?
What do you think is most important for something like this? :)

How to:
a. Edit a post so you don't have to post 1 reply for every quote in response
b. Find the correct section to post in
These two are on my wishlist. Would make every mod's life 10x easier.
30-60 seconds to cover all the 'how to's' of ATAR Notes. That's not long. Do you think you will be able to cover all the points?
Everyone post your thoughts here :)
-
^Nah quite possibly not. Might have to be longer - could even have a series of videos if necessary?
This is why we need input haha. :)
Thanks Aaron!

A method of finding your question and it's reply without having to dig through multiple pages of questions

Yep, great call. Do you reckon going back through your own posts is best for this?

Indeed I do :)

Seems a complex process - "show new replies to my posts", then navigating back to the date the post was made seems less involved imo, but I understand everyone's found their own personal ways to navigate this maze hahaha

You'd be pretty surprised at how annoyed some users get by navigating back to the date, plus some people (not sure how) forget the date they posted their query. I'm only in for this because I've had a few complaints about being 'unable to find their post through the digging'

Makes it harder if there have been multiple posts after yours, though.

Bump! :)
Good suggestions here thus far.
Cast your mind back. When you first joined ATAR Notes, what did you find most confusing?
-
How/where to find articles (and how to search for specific ones if that's possible?)! (I literally just figured this out right now - I usually just read the ones posted on Facebook!)
-
It'd be good to have a quick nod to the respect system. It'd be nice for more people to get involved, especially in the HSC section -- as small as it is, it's nice to see that counter showing your helpful (or in my case, downright hilarious 8) ) post appreciated.

hmm you need to be getting a notification if someone quotes one of your posts :P

I know some forum software that does this (e.g. XenForo which notifies you when you either get tagged or quoted).. Sadly SMF is.. in a nice way. not great

I brought this up recently. I was extremely keen. It's not possible with what we have right now - but hopefully in the future.

Maybe a brief explanation of bbcode?

I don't think you need it (the spoiler in your sig is evidence of that ;)) but for anyone reading who wants a refresher on BBCode, or on anything AN-related, check out Brenden's mega guide to the whole site ;D
