Title: VCAA 2001 Exam Q10 - interference help!
Post by: illuminati_confirmed on July 26, 2017, 11:23:48 am
I'm struggling with this question about two speakers at the same frequency (between 150Hz and 250Hz) and wavelength where 2.4m away from one of them than the other there is a minimum, and you have to find their frequency.

How am I meant  to approach this question and how do I complete it?

Hi, are you able to send a screenshot of the question? I can't find the exam on the VCAA website.

Based off what you've said I think that the question wants you to do this:
-understand that constructive and destructive interference can occur for longitudinal waves
-realise that destructive interference is occurring
-use that knowledge and the distance of the first minima to find the wavelength
-convert that into a frequency

Not 100% sure though, if you could send a pic of the question that would be great :)
