Title: Resources Advice:
Post by: lazaward on January 16, 2018, 02:24:48 am
Hi guys,

Is it worth getting checkpoints for all my subjects (Methods, Chem, English, Bio and Psychology)?

NEAP for bio - but I’m unsure which one to get since there’s one for exams and one for sacs.

Insight comparisons guide for my two English texts.

Learning materials by lisachem for chemistry.

I feel like I won’t really use all of this though and I should just buy checkpoints?
Any advice is appreciated!

I don't know about Checkpoints for English and Bio, but the Chemistry, Methods and Psych ones are very good I believe.

The Insight guides are very good, strongly recommend them, similarly the Neap resources, at least for Chemistry, don't know about lisachem.

It is largely a matter of whether you will actually use these resources, and are they re-saleable? If you are actually going to use them, then definitely get them, but if not it's not really worth getting. However they may be very useful.

Resources can sometimes be useful, especially if you use them. Also, sometimes your teachers already purchase resources for you, so it may not be necessary to buy them.

I used checkpoints for chem and methods. I found checkpoints useful for sac prep, because it categorised the questions. However, some people may argue that it’s not really that useful because they’re just VCAA exams, and you can just get them for free on the website.

My teacher purchased NEAP questions for chem. I personally found them very useful. After all, sometimes doing heaps of practice questions is the way to go.

My teacher also bought the insight comparaison guide for us. I think it wasn’t too bad, honestly. But it still lacked the detail and complexity that you would need to score a high scoring essay. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth buying, unless you’re getting it second hand and pretty cheap.

If you don’t think you’re going to use the resources, then I suggest not buying them. Even if they’re brilliant, there’s not much point unless they’re being used.

Hope this helps!

Apparently Lisachem is really good! I only did the practice exams and not the study guides. But the exams were really hard. I had someone who used lisachem study guides and he really recommended it (he got a 50).
