So I saw a video online and I'm wondering right now... is water wet?
I thought about it.. and was like is this a stupid q, but it's seems that it's not as stupid as it seems :P
The dictionary says that water is liquid that makes something damp.
BUT
- SOme people say that "Chilli makes things spicy.. thus AND Spiciness is the feeling of hotness from chilli.. THUS Chilli is spicy... SO water is wet?
Scientists say that
- water is wet because of strong tetrahedral hydrogen bonding if you want to get wet there needs to be at least six molecules of water in a cluster. Also water molecules do stick to each other :,)
WHat do you think?
IS water wet?
-
OMG I just had this debate with my friend recently. His argument was that water makes things wet but you cant wet water therefore water must by dry. Honestly, i think the logic is flawed. Water is definitely wet.
-
... I'm confused by the question, as it insinuates there are people who believe water isn't wet?
Is that like them flat earthers?

I believe it started off as a joke and now some people actually believe this. There apparently seems to be some reasoning behind this too...

Was it this one?

Was it this one?
Bingo. That's the one :P
-
Water is just a collection of molecules that can separate and rejoin and tend to stick together.
Is honey wet? What about slime? What about jelly? What about solid metal?
What is "wet"? Is anything truly "wet"?
-
The word 'wet' means the relationship something non-water has with water. So, technically, water itself can't be wet, just like hair can't be hairy.

YOu see ... Hairy is an adjective.
Wet is a noun and an adjective, I'd beg to differ.

Even though this isn't a big sample size, i'd say there are people that think water isn't wet :,).

The attached picture begs to differ. ;) Something is simply wet if it can be saturated by water - water, by definition, is saturated by itself. You can also refer to other liquids being wet (eg, wet petrol would be petrol that has water mixed in with it), so you can't argue that point.
Since water is saturated by water, and for something to be wet it needs to be saturated by water, then water is wet.
-
Water cannot be saturated by water. If you take the water doing the saturating out, the water that is supposedly being saturated ceases to exist, so there's nothing there to 'fill' with water. I feel like I'm missing the fact that people are joking, here.
-
Can fire be burnt?
-
Well it's not dry, and if it's not dry it must be wet.
-
Water doesn’t exist.
-
Wetness is related to additional liquid, but water is already a liquid, a pure liquid, not just an aqueous solution, so no it is not wet, because it cannot be wet, it is already saturated. But that doesn't mean it's wet... :D
