Title: People doing both Methods and Further
Post by: Yertle the Turtle on February 19, 2018, 02:56:43 pm
You know there are those people who do Methods and even Specialist with Further? Should this be allowed? Should people who are able to score well at a higher level of maths lower the scores of those who are not as mathematically able, who just do Further as their maths because they won't cut it in Methods? Is this fair????? Any ideas?

I don't think I have a problem with it, but happy to be persuaded the other way. IMO it would be an interesting precedent to preclude students doing subjects because they're good at them. I understand Further and Spesh are probably directed at different types of students but yeah, fine line to draw I think.

One of our TuteSmart tutors did all three of Spesh, Methods and Further, and of the three, actually found Further really useful at uni. Some people might genuinely enjoy the subject but want as much maths as possible. Should we also disallow those doing English Language to do English or Literature? I don't think so.

Same thing with languages - it's never going to be an equal ball game.
