Title: Practical Investigation
Post by: manthila2000 on July 18, 2018, 11:48:43 am
Hi all,
For my practical investigation I’m thinking of doing this:

Electromagnetic cannon: A solenoid can be used to fire a small ball. A capacitor is used to energise the solenoid coil. Build a device with a capacitor charged to a maximum 50V. Investigate the relevant parameters and maximise the speed of the ball.
(Selected from list given by teacher)

Any ideas on how I can do this? Anything would be helpful.

Well, this appears to me to be somewhat similar to a rail-gun in workings....
Try doing some research in that sector.

Is it Lenz's law that says about the force pushing back when a magnet is travelling through a tube??
That may influence your design...

Lenz's Law
First vid I found was an illusionist kit, but it demonstrates well...
