Title: Does the VCE Physics EPI count into your study score?
Post by: astuteham on August 29, 2018, 09:20:17 pm
Hi ATARNotes,

I was wondering whether my study score would be affected by how good/bad my EPI was, because in the VCAA's study design it said that the final score relied on the unit 3 and 4 SACs (worth 21% and 19% respectively) and on the exam (60%). My physics teacher mentioned how the EPI wasn't "like a SAC" in that he could be much more slack about the due date and when I can hand in my EPI. However given the importance that the EPI seems to be treated with, I think I may be missing something important about how it's marked.

Thank you,
Astuteham (Nicole)

Hey there!
According to the VCAA Physics study design, an outcome can be assessed (and contribute to a study score) by one of these means:
Quote from: VCAA
•    annotations of at least two practical activities from
a practical logbook
•    a report of a student investigation
•    a report of a physics phenomenon
•    data analysis
•    media analysis/response
•    design, building, testing and evaluation of a device
or physical model
•    an explanation of the operation of a device or
physical model
•    a proposed solution to a scientific or technological
problem
•    a response to structured questions
•    a reflective learning journal or blog related to selected
activities or in response to an issue
•    a test (short answer and extended response)

Therefore, in short, I am led to believe that the EPI will contribute to your study score in lieu of a test-based SAC. :)
Best of luck!! ^-^

Yes,  the year 12 EPI counts to your study score. Like other SACs your teacher will be assessing it.

I would argue that it's especially  important in comparison to your other SACs

There are guidelines for the EPI on the VCAA website which might be useful for you to read

Hope this helps :)

7% study score
Thanks to all for clarifying! :) I think I would have scored lower than I normally would have on this poster as I handed it in quite late ... good to know that it's not an enormous setback!
