Title: How monash has FML. Should i take further action?
Post by: kenny17 on October 22, 2009, 08:46:06 pm
On the undergraduate course guide 2010 for monash university, it says that the pre-requisites are methods, english and 1 OF BIO OR PHYSICS for bachelor of radiograpahy. When i saw this i said fuk physics coz its gay(sorry to cause offense to some but its true), and i had already got an score of 35 for bio. So i said great i can get into radiography. But now in the VTAC guide it says ONLY physics is the prerequisite. i called and they confirmed this. Now i cant go get into my dream course.

Is there anything i can do since it clearly said in writing BIO or PHYSICS are the pre-requisites?Huh?

that sucks that happened. call up and tell them about what happened and see if they understand and can make any exception.. but perhaps if you can't get in, do a bachelor of science or something of similar. do a physics subject, gain credit and transfer into your "dream course" it's possible you wont even have to do the course for an extra semester, and if you can't gain credit it's only one extra semester of life for your dream course:)
 goodluck!

Is the undergraduate course guide online? If so, make sure to save a copy.

EDIT: online one also makes physics compulsory. Where did you see it?
I know someone doing radiography and it does contain a fair bit of physics, so if you don't like it, then maybe it wasn't the course for you.

Okay, this seems VERY weird, especially since I would listen to the Monash Course guide above all else.

But seeing they confirmed it, I would explain ur situation to Monash and ur career teacher.

Look, I know you HAVE to do a prereq, but they decided to change it last minute, so if they say a very willing student, they mgiht make an exception.

My only concern is that you're going into a course which does involve quite a bit of physics, with an attitude like "fuk physics coz its gay". Are you really sure that this is your 'dream course'? As for what you can do, apart from ringing up and complaining about the sudden change which does seem quite unfair actually, I don't see what else there is really.

Well i didnt like unit 3 phsyics due to motion but ive read up on the radiograpahy course and sounds interesting and i beleive i can do it.

Also i have a hard copy of the undergraduate course guide on my desk, so i have proof!

You only need a 25 in physics to meet the requirements. Would you be able to get that?

Can you scan and upload? Maybe you missed something? Since both VTAC and the online undergraduate course guide say that physics is compulsory ...

Checked Monash 2010 handbook, clicked on it and it has range of criteria where it says biology or physics 25
http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/assets/pdf/09-ugcg-mnhs.pdf
but if I go to  http://www.monash.edu.au/study/coursefinder/course/1963/domestic-requirements.html it's just physics
and the vtac 2010 guide says physics only

(Just for reference for people responding)

Oh in that case definitely badger them as this is incredibly unfair.

Just remember that radiography will have a lot of physics in it!

well i already have a C+ form semester 1 and u saw me damian doing methods/chem in phsyics lol, i have slacked off since i thought i didnt need it, and know hardly anythin in unit 4. And the median was a B so im on 25 atm and i doubt i would get anohter C+ on unit 4 exam, not enough time to cram, or is it?

So you are wanting to become a radiographer but hate physics! This is like saying "I want to become a computer programmer, but hate computers".

Studying to become a radiographer will require you learn the basics of particle physics, electronics, etc.

lol i know huh

maybe you just like it cause it sounds cool.....but if it also requires alot of physics and you hate it...then...

hmmmmm...well yeah i will see what happens and ask people who actually to the course about the level of physics involved.
According to most RMIT is better for radiography so may consider that and physics is not a prerequisite for it!

You can't study more advanced physics concepts without learning the fundamentals. And as for the rather misleading information, you should call up Monash.

I was very good friends with someone doing radiography at RMIT. There is a lot of physics involved. I've seen his work. I can send you some of his powerpoint presentations, even. There's a reason Monash asks for it as a pre-req -_-

But when you graduate, you won't have to use physics anymore!

Keep in mind that he said he didn't like the MOTION part of physics; not the stuff that should be relevant to imaging and such. I haven't done physics personally so I'm not sure if any of the motion stuff is relevant though, although I assume not, or not to a great extent.

IF you graduate :P it'd be damn hard finishing the course if you hate physics.

EDIT: re shinny - I will ask my friend if his course has a lot of motion. I do know there's a lot of nuclear physics in it.

If you look at the fineprint, often these things will have something to the effect of information on here is not necessarily correct, or that it only correct at time of publishing and may be subject to change. So I'm not sure how far your complaint may go.

While motion is not likely to be a core part of nuclear physics, understanding Newton's laws are pretty much fundamental for understanding other things (since we care a lot about forces and guess what, motion of things!)
