What’s everyone’s thought on Tyler/The Prophet?
I believe that Mandel uses him to highlight how ‘survival is insufficient’ as she kinda makes him sorta two dimensional (we don’t see what goes on inside his head, unlike many of the characters) and a victim of merely surviving. Though I feel like atm I’m unable to make a solid arguement to support how I feel about him.
Has anyone else thought about Tyler/The Prophet this way? Most of the people I talk to don’t believe that he’s a victim :(

Hi caitlinherrra,
That's a great angle to look at Tyler! In a way though, aren't all characters living out the idea that 'survival is insufficient'? You have characters who become actors, musicians, form families, become doctors, etc. It's hard to see Tyler as merely surviving - he creates something so much bigger than himself, which gives purpose to him and those around him. I think you're definitely right that he is a victim, but perhaps saying that he is a victim of merely surviving doesn't capture the full extent of how he has survived.
Hope that makes sense!
